Lessons From the Mattress Store

mattress-2489615__340Unfortunately, the mattress I purchased a few years ago is not up to the task of providing a great nights sleep.  I can call it the Psalm 23 mattress as the middle sags and leads us right into the valley of the shadow of death each night.  You know it is bad when you have muscles starting to develop due to the effort it takes just to get out of bed.  Maybe I’m exaggerating a bit, but I need a new mattress.

Friday, I took a trip to the mall to get out of the house with the little guys and burn a little energy.  I was drawn into a store advertising a mattress sale as I needed to see what it would take to upgrade to a good nights sleep.  I had a wonderful conversation with the young clerk and as I mentioned one of my experiences, she said “you should blog about that”.  Much to her surprise I told her that I do have some blogs and even a podcast.  I’ll spare you the details of the entire conversation.  Through the conversation I was able to share about “Selling Jesus”.  As I was turning to leave she asked, “what is the website to your blog again?”  I turned back, smiled and said you can find everything at sellingjesus.com.  She then reminded me that our mission field is in our own back yard when she said, I’m going to check it out.  I’ve never been inside a church before so I’m curious what the blog and podcast is all about.

Wow, right here in south St. Louis, we have people that have never been to church.  We have people that have no opinion of God based on what the Bible says about Him.  We have people that have ideologies developed from what they hear from media and based on observations of the few around them that call themselves Christians. (I sure hope they represent Christ well)

Is this really a surprise to me?  Of course not.  However, it is a reminder that there is a mission field right in my back yard.  People depending on me to be the one to appropriately introduce them to Jesus, the savior that changed my life.

K, if you ever find yourself reading this blog you can know that our conversation did cause me to write a blog.  Just not on the topic you said I should write about.  I have prayed for you regularly since I left the store that night that you would take some time to listen to one of the podcasts on this site and ultimately taste and see that the Lord is good.  Jesus is the only source that leads to unwavering hope and peace.  Jesus is the only way to everlasting life.  Jesus is the King of kings, the Lord of lords and he wants you to know Him.  I pray our conversation helped start that process.
